The GoPro Hero 4 is yet another feature packed, ultra-HD video camera that has become a popular underwater video camera for snorkeling or scuba diving. The camera comes in two models: the Hero4 silver and the Hero4 black, both of which boast significant upgrades over the previous generation. For the first time, the silver model has a built-in touch display to enable better composition and review of your shots, while the Hero4 black is two times as powerful as the Hero 3+ model. Most Snorkel lovers are using both Hero4 models for snorkeling. When budget allows, opt for the Black. 
The GoPro Hero4 Black has made some big navigation and menu changes, making it much simpler to change camera settings and switch modes in the middle of an underwater action. One of the major upgrades of the Hero4 is super fast video frame rates for 2.7K and 4K video – though recording video using this resolution can be resource-intensive since faster frame rates mean more hard drive storage space and higher computer processing power. The black model offers the highest quality of video and a wider view screen when snorkeling but does not come with a viewfinder. This means you cannot compose or view your picture without transferring it to your computer first. The new model is 15 percent lighter and 20 percent smaller than the previous model, and has a faster Wi-Fi connection. Its smaller size is both a blessing and a curse. While it is more portable and convenient to shoot underwater video, the camera has sacrificed some important controls for size. For instance, it has no zoom lenses and almost everything is automatic – but this is no problem for amateurs who shoot in automatic mode anyway. Using the GoPro Hero underwater feels nice– though everything else has remained relatively the same as in previous generations including the need for a selfie pole or a tray setup to help hold and stabilize the camera.
