This isn’t the best Hawaiian Green Sea Turtle video but it is always pretty cool to bump into one when you’re snorkeling. This particular turtle is tagged on both fins and we caught it on video at Hanauma Bay on Oahu. The sea turtle, or “honu” in Hawaiian, are a very majestic and sacred animal in Hawaiian and Polynesian culture. It is always an honor to swim with one and they should NEVER be harassed.
The video is created with Magisto which is a handy little web and mobile app to have if you are completely lazy and horrible at video editing.
The conditions were really choppy today, even at Hanauma Bay which is a pretty docile, tourist snorkeling spot on Oahu. The video was taken with a GoPro Hero 3 with a POV Dive Buoy for easy handling and a float just in case.
Again, don’t blame the GoPro for the crappy video…it was just a really poor snorkeling visibility day.
Always remember, snorkeling is a leisure activity and should be fun. Keep safety in mind at all times and never allow yourself to be fooled by the water or put to much too much stake in your swimming and snorkeling abilities. Check out the snorkel and surf reports the day prior!
