We ran into this snowflake moray eel at Makaha Beach Park, one of our favorite beach spots on Oahu. Makaha isn’t the best snorkel location because there is not a lot to see near the shore and it’s a pretty long swim to where all the good snorkeling is but every once in a while we go just to chill at the beach and see the occasional turtle that comes close to land.
This was a treat because the eel was out in the open and didn’t have a lot of spaces to hide from the camera. I’m a pretty good snorkeler…but I’m not that great at the GoPro. You’ll see my lack of skills as you watch the videos below, but I still think they’re pretty good if somewhat short and sweet.
You can see the pretty yellow markings, especially on the head. This little guy was only about 4 feet long.
